this is my mizusashi. i made it myself from things found – mitate.

the main body – made of stoneware – is originally a german 17th century wine bottle with looped handle on one side close to the spout – a quite common type. this one had a nice firing.

the lid is the bottom of a wooden container from the 18th century – similar to a well bucket. the color is linseed oil and pigment and is very stable despite its scratchy look. it fits snugly after i carved its underside.

the delightful knob on top – a phellinus nigricans – a quite uncommon bracket fungus – growing on the stem of dead birch in the mountains. it is very firm – like wood. its black top surface is indeed like burnt cracked wood.

size: height 19,5 cm, diameter 18 cm.

the carpet is from afghanistan.
